Two of my clients immediately come to mind on this topic. One mom pumped for
six weeks and gave the baby expressed milk in a bottle. At six weeks the
baby went to breast and stayed there on and off for the next 2-1/2 years. It
was mom's 2nd baby - I don't know what would have happened if it was her
first.
The second was an Asian mom with "poufy" nipples. We worked to get the baby
on as deep as possible, and indeed the baby was able to make a good enough
vacuum to transfer milk.
