With permission to post...
Mom with 12 week old baby who was given large doses of antibiotics at birth
and for weeks thereafter due to a tear that got infected and subsequently a
small blood clot as well. Of course developed thrush, her nipples were sore at
first, then came baby with white patches, and then pain in her breasts. She
was given Difulcan for 10 days at first and baby was treated with Nystatin
however mom did not follow directions and put plunger back into bottle. Began
next round of Diflucan for 14 days, baby on Nystatin using correctly but mom
was not changing breast pads, etc. Now finishing 3rd round of Diflucan where
she has taken 100 mg two times per day and baby is on Diflucan as well. She
was given a nipple cream by her OB because she could not find a pharmacy to
compound Newmans cream but just got some yesterday to begin. Father is
very controlling and when he saw the baby had a purple mouth from the gent.
violet he made her stop that.

She still after 2 weeks of treating baby, herself, changing breast pads, using a
vinegar wash, a basic nipple cream for yeast (she still does not know what it
was) she says she has pain in her breasts and is on a no sugar diet as much
as you can be. She has a very large oversupply and I think some pain may be
due to that but she is supposed to start another round of Diflucan since she is
not pain free and her nipples are that wonderul pink color. She says she wants
to wean and her friends are telling her to so the thrush will go away.....any
other advice or can I hope that this next round will be it, or a combo of yeast
and supply....this is the most stubborn case I have had. Overall, this has been
going on for about 6 weeks.
