Dear Lactnet community,
My beautiful first granddaughter is now 16, of course, she received my 2002
Alero for her b-day while I purchased a newer car. She is not @ all
spoiled. :-) She is the dearest, sweetest, most beautiful (inside & out)
red haired girl I have ever known. She was a young child when I became an
LC; she was brought into my world by helping me make BRF packets and
literally became a little LC.
When she hit puberty she began to gain weight, have irregular periods, some
facial breakouts and to grow fine light hair on her face & chin. Obviously,
I immediately thought PCOS/PCOD. I had to fight with my daughter to take
her to the OB, but we finally saw him last week. She is a mere 5-4 and now
weighs 216. When she was 3 her ped sent her to a pediatric endocrinologist
b/c she was so small. The OB obviously diagnosed her with Polycystic ovarian
disease. He put her on Metformin and BCP's. I know this is a bit off
topic, but I would be so grateful for references concerning PCOS/PCOD and/or
any books that deal with the disease. He told her that she would never be
able to get pregnant without professional help. That does not bother her
now, but I assume that it will in the future and I know that her "Nana" will
be devastated if she is unable to nurse her babies. Please respond to me
