Hi all,
I am wondering how many of us who work in hospitals are seeing infants who
routinely receive sucrose for painful procedures (ie. met screens, bili draws,
etc.) who are extremely reluctant to breastfeed for hours after receiving the
sucrose is administered.
I looked in the archives and didn't find anything specifically addressing this. I
did see that several subscribers had voiced the concern regarding what
sucrose does to the infant's gut, but no real answer - is there anything to be
concerned about?
Thanks so much,
Brenda Phipps, BS, IBCLC
