Our NICU is trying to "benchmark" the LC coverage at other NICU/Level 2
units, and trying to advocate for more LC coverage. Could other LCs answer
the following questions, to help us!
1. How many NICU/Level 2 beds do you have?
2. How many LCs do you have? Who do you serve (outpt or inpt)?
3. Where are you located (on site)?
4. Do you rotate through various areas or are you specifically designated to
the NICU?
5. How many hours are spent working in the NICU?
6. What specifically are your services (all 1st breastfeedings, regular follow
up)? Do you teach any breastfeeding classes or other offerings to NICU Moms?
7. Do you have set hours and days posted? FTE?
8. Do you do Lactation Rounds or participate in multidiscipinary rounds?
9. Do you have any follow up with the breastfeeding Moms after discharge?
10. What are the expectations of the bedside nurse? Do you have a resource
group (nurses with more lactation education)?
Any info you could give would be awesome~or course the sooner the better.
