Laurie -
I had similar experiences with my little boy. I found three things helpful:
1. I changed him from rice to oatmeal
2. I gave him 1oz of prune juice with 1oz of water every morning after a day of no poop until we had results.
3. I took him to a chiropractor. The chiropractor was and has been extremely helpful. I found that when my baby was constipated he was also nasally congested and the chiropractic adjustment relieved both situations at the same time. The thing to note carefully though is that the chiropractor is really welcoming of babies and small children.
Hope that is helpful to you.

I have seen many a baby who starts rice cereal as a first food here in USA.
Invariably, the baby will have an almost immediate stool pattern change
towards not stooling much any more.
I would suggest mother eliminate the custard due to the rice/maize
ingredients. It sounds like baby may have some issues with stooling which
presented early, and bears watching, but not sure it is pathological.
I am not a fan of enemas and would rather give the bub some little drinks
of, say, apple juice.
