I recommend this mom read Taking Charge of Your Fertility and chart a 
couple or three cycles.  Then she will see if and how breastfeeding is 
affecting her fertility.

She may be quite fertile and not have the knowledge of her cycle to 
know when to time intercourse, so she appears infertile and assumes it 
is because of breastfeeding.

Or she may not even be ovulating, and she might be able to see that she 
is close to the threshold to ovulate and she may just need to cut back 
on bf at night at mid-cycle to get herself over that threshold and go 
back to nursing.

Or maybe she really would need to wean or almost wean, but she won't 
know unless she gets more information.
