It's that "magic 30 minutes" to feed I hear so much about in SCN and NICU. The claim is if baby takes longer than 30 minutes to feed, he blows more energy than he takes in with the milk / formula and he doesn't gain weight. Repeat it too often and he loses weight. Especially in the SCN where they are "feeder / growers", gaining weight is essential to getting them discharged in an appropriate time frame. All hospitals want to control "patient days".
No one has ever been able to direct me to one research study that proves the clinical theory. It's just what "everyone knows" and they believe it absolutely.
