Well, this is an interesting situation - one, in my opinion, full of ethical
issues.
Any wonder why with the SOP and now this that I am quickly losing interest
in recertifying? What is the point? I know others will say - do it because
it still lends credence to the field and the rest of us who are continuing
on with being IBCLC's. However, if I won't do business with a person or
organization I feel is unethical then why would I accept certification from
an organization that is clearly headed in the same direction?
I don't accept or deal with double standards - they irritate me and I am no
fun when irritated. Double standards are unethical and unprofessional.
I refuse to associate with unethical persons or businesses - they irritate
me and I am no fun when irritated. Doing business with unethical people and
businesses affects my business name in a negative manner - so I don't do it.
It would be a double standard for me to knowingly associate with unethical
persons/businesses.
Please don't tell me to do one thing then turn around and tell me if I do
what you just told me to do I will lose my certification or be judged as
practicing unethically. I don't think I even need to say how unethical and
full of double standards that is.
This whole situation irritates me in more ways than I care to imagine. This
situation needs to be dealt with now - in a positive, professional and
ethical manner. I am distressed that our certifying board seems to be
disappearing. What it will be replaced with worries me even more.
A few weeks ago I got an e-mail from IBLCE apologizing for the delayed
response to my e-mail of concern about the SOP that I sent to them LAST
YEAR! While I suppose I should appreciate that, and I truly feel for the
woman who sent it, when I got it my first thought was, "Apology? Big deal.
Too little too late." Were they so inundated with e-mails of concern that
it took them 6 months to get back to everyone? Whatever.sad if you ask me.
So, I'll keep the title of IBCLC until it is clear that absolutely no
ethical resolution will be found/made. If, in 2010, there is nothing I can
find within IBLCE that is ethical and makes sense - then I will simply let
the certification lapse (with a letter to them as to why) and go on about my
business as a Professional Lactation Consultant. Those who don't like that
idea, well.that is OK with me. We all have a right to our opinions.
Take care all.
Warmly,
Jaye Simpson
Trying to not be irritated.and whose ethical standards are so darn high I
irritate myself at times.
