Some posters seem to reject Karp's book and approach because of concerns about misapplications they have seen. Anything can be used to escess and for the wrong motivation. I have even heard of women who have forced older children (I'm talking 8, 9, 10 and older) to suck on their breasts for purely the mother's own perverted motivations. Unfortunately, there are some "professionals" who cite these rare, sick cases as evidence that nursing any baby/child over a given age is also perverted. I heard of a case (not BF related) where someone took literally the Bible verse that says "if thy right hand offends, cut it off" (not sure of the exact wording) and did cut off his hand because he decided it was appropriate "penance". Again, anything can be used to escess and for the wrong reasons, but that in itself doesn't justify throwing out an entire method or approach.

Winnie
