Yes, we do this in our NICU and Peds units. The nurses even check the MRN
number which is placed on the label. It all came about because a baby got
the wrong milk a couple of years ago.

Hello everyone,
I am a hospital based LC with an issue. We recently had a nurse feed a
newborn another mother breastmilk in error. It was brought to my attention
to have the policy revised. Has anyone herd of having to verify breastmilk
with 2 nurses (similar to blood verification) before infant feeding?
Thanks,
Brandi Thomas RN, CLC, mother of 3!!!
