I reached my 3-posts-per-day quotum sooner than I thougt yesterday, so here's my last answer to Jaye, with some delay:
Dear Jaye,
I think we're dealing with misunderstandings here.
I thought we were talking otherwise healthy kids and moms - no I see
you're talking premies. I thought we're talking long term fulltime
pumping - now I see you're talking waiting till baby is grown and better
capable of feeding at breast.
I work with mainly healthy term newborns and older babies and moms
who kind of choose to pump and bottlefeed for convenience sake. Or
because trying to get baby drinking properly is to much of a hassle. Or who
think they've been told that pumping is a normal part of breastfeeding
or who honestly think to have learned that breast*milk*feeding equals
breastfeeding for 100%. I do see a horrifying rise in those moms in my
corner!
Warmly,
Gonneke, IBCLC, LLLL in southern Netherlands
