How about the scientific basis for warning against the use of human milk vs
not being fed human milk at all? I dare say this basis will be rather small.
Gonneke asks when statements about the 'dangers' of cross nursing/wet
nursiing and using donor human milk will be set against the sell established
dangers associated with the use of commercial non-human milks. ... Call me
a cynic but I am thinking that this will only happen when someone sues big
pharma for not informing his/her mother of the risks associated with not
breastfeeding. The statements that Gonneke so rightly criticises (I think)
reflect a legal risk assessment (and the number and size of successful suits
associated with cross-nursing and with medically acquired HIV ...) not
accurate health risk assessments.
