I have seen other Asian women immediately postpartum who don't have much 
to do with their new baby. Part of that may be a cultural thing. We have a 
great reference book at work which explains all sorts of cultural beliefs 
surrounding birth,etc., at work.

Many times, it seems that Asian women don't breastfeed.
