Hi Micky
Actually, I *didn't* say the tongue had to be up to the roof of a baby's mouth when crying, only that it should be raised. Alison Hazelbaker's tool explains this very well and is an excellent resource for assessment. I'd certainly endorse the idea of your getting a second or third opinion. As with most areas of special interest, some health professionals know more about this than others, and in some places, they are in the minority. This may be because of the difficulty in defining tongue-tie - often it is decided on the basis of whether the tongue is heart-shaped, but some don't look like that. The amount of *function* that the tongue has (or doesn't have) is improtant. I hope someone on this list can give you infomation, off list, on local resources.
Happy New Year to those of you who celebrate the (Western) New Year this weekend.
I'm going off list, i.e. nomail, right after this. So, any reply needs to come to me privately.
