Hello All,
I have moms permission to post.
She breastfed first 4 children with no problems. Number 5 was born with a
cleft lip and cleft and cleft palate. She did 3 ultrasounds including one
on the day of the birth and noone saw this, so she found out as the baby was
born. She is incredible, handling it amazing, etc.
She is pumping, and having a terrible time of it. The baby is 4 weeks old,
she has been pumping with a Lactina (that is all that is available here)
every 3 hours since birth. Her supply is so low that the baby is getting
75% formula. We tried different flange sizes, and she has been taking
Fenugreek. She also is taking Domperidone, with only a slight increase-
about 5 cc. She has been on this for already 6 days. She says she feels a
letdown at the pump, and then is only able to get out about 20cc.
Any ideas? She reports bleeding is not out of the ordinary, no cramping,
and she feels good. Birth was normal, not difficult.
What else? This is so hard because especially for this baby she wants him
to get her milk.
She has also experimented with the Avent hand pump with no difference. I
thought maybe she could try a Whittlestone because it works differently? I
don't know what else to tell her.
Thanks,
Jessica Billowitz, IBCLC
