I received the following question and with the mother's permission I
ask you on Lactnet.
Pat Gima

Hi Pat,
My daughter Megan is 32 months old and continues to breastfeed 3-4
times per day. On Easter Sunday, when we were out of state, she had
spotting of bright red blood that appeared to be from her
vagina. She had no signs of vaginal irritation, abrasion, etc. This
was day 4 of my own menstrual period. Could the spotting have been a
reaction to hormone levels in my breastmilk? Should I be
concerned? We just got home from our trip tonight. I plan to call
her pediatrician tomorrow, but doubt she will have much knowledge of
toddler breastfeeding. I would hate to have her recommend weaning to
see if that prevents the problem next month based on no available
data. Have you ever heard of this?
Thanks,
Dawn
