A Baby Friendly Hospital could go without any costs on formula, even with no corporation donations if it has a policy that parents that insist on not breastfeeding take their own food for their newborns. As will do other patients who will not use the foods offered by the hospital.
Warmly,

I'm looking to those of you who are currently working in Baby-Friendly Hospitals for some assistance. I have been asked to bring a cost estimate to the next administrative meeting as our hospital is looking at becoming Baby Friendly. I've searched the archives and on-line, but can't seem to find any real numbers. Can any of you share with me how much your hospital spends on formula and how many births you do, and what your current breastfeeding initiation rate is. I also would like to know how you trained your staff for the 18 hours required. Were the staff paid for attending training? Were they trained on-site or off-site?
Any information would be greatly appreciated. You can e-mail me privately if you wish, @ [log in to unmask], and if you would please let me know if I have permission to share your post or e-mail. Thanks
Mary Foley RN, BSN, IBCLC
