Like many of the rest of us, I feel that the choice of pumping and bottle
feeding (the choice to never put the baby to breast)is twice the work, but
I personally am seeing an increase of mothers who choose this as their way
to feed their baby. I have learned to take a step back and accept that as
a feeding choice.
I am also seeing more and more moms who are completely successful
breastfeeding but are pumping (in addition) and alternately using a bottle
much earlier than I would suggest (or think is a good idea). These mothers
are doing fine breastfeeding (at home) but can't think of sitting down to
actually nurse when they are out of their home. Again, I feel this is so
much extra work on the mother's part, but that is not my judgement call to
make.
I guess our role is expanding to help mothes maintain a good suppley while
bottle feeding as well as getting others to a good start at breast. I
have larned not to let this approach frustrate me. At least the baby is
getting human milk.
