Baby of a diabetic (gestational or Type 1) is a different situation than a
simple low sugar in a healthy full term new born. Keep baby on drip, feed
whatever colostrum she gets via pumping and continue IV until baby and mom
can get together regularily. Of course they will do the guilt trip on her
and tell her baby could get rid of IV sooner if she would just let them
formula feed :-( Pat in SNJ
Dear Friends:
Seeing babies supplemented with human milk substitutes who born to
diabetic mothers makes me froth at the mouth. Here is a baby already at risk to
develop diabetes in its life from some genetic susceptibility, and the medical
professionals are increasing that risk!!
