profession) must work within guidelines whether we like it or not.

I know some of you will not like what I have said, but we all have to work
within a framework: like it or not. Let's not cut off our noses to spite
our faces. We can continue to make inroads into lactation and continue to
help mothers.Let's make that a priority.

  Dear friends,

How a IBCLC works and what is ''allowed'' to do or not do, or to say or not say should be fully and unrestrictedly be unrelated to whatever other credentials s/he has. Lactation Consultancy is and should be a unique profession, not a nursing specialty nor a midwifery specialty. A scope of practice for a profession should not exclude a part of those people who sat for the same exam, but are not previously (para-)medically schooled. No, it should offer the broadest tools possible to do the job in the very best way, meaning to help and mothers and babies enjoy a as good as possible time as a breastfeeding dyad.

  Warmly,

Gonneke, IBCLC without any other (para-) medical schooling
