Hi All,
I had a call from a client today (permission to post) who is thinking of having a
gastric bypass surgery. She is currently breastfeeding her 2 1/2 month old,
and is thinking of having this surgery. She was told it would be 3-6 months
before the surgery. At time of surgery her infant will be 6-9 months old. She
plans to breastfeed for at least a year. Have any of you had any experience
with a mother who is currently breastfeeding while having the surgery? Any
concerns for her milk supply during/after surgery? Or concerns for the quality
of her milk given the nutrient depletion Mom will be experiencing? I have
worked with mothers who have had bypass years before pregnancy, and have
had no problems with milk supply. I have not worked with a mother who is
having the surgery in conjunction with her nursing.
Thanks for the insight and information.
