Yeah, according to my kids, I'm older than God (actually, older than His
mother!) and dumber than dirt. We, as women, need to retake control of
what is exclusively WOMEN'S WORK! - childbirth and breastfeeding. I got a
doctor once to shut up by politely telling him that only when he had nursed a
baby would I then follow his "order" of telling a mom to stop nursing because
he was diagnosing her with mastitis. He stopped in mid-tirade, blinked a few
times in shock/surprise, and walked away from me. Never gave me grief
again. There is no better way to know birth and breastfeeding than by
actually doing it! I think we are in danger of burying our God-given woman
knowledge and instincts under the guise of "evidence-based practice". I am a
firm believer in evidence-based practice and find that it does serve me quite
effectively most of the time, but we need to balance this with our gut
maternal instincts.
I hear you, Jan.
