This doesn't sound that abnormal of an amount to me for a three week old. I see three or four ounce intake in about 3-5 minutes. But of course, it depends on how big baby is. Is baby choking?

How much did baby take in total at this feeding? What is birth weight and current weight?

With this amount, I might be tempted to look at swallowing issues, not just MER issues. Especially since lowering the milk supply isn't helping. I have seen babies clamp down to slow the flow but this is with a greater intake than this visit. Babies with oral motor issues will also bite and chew instead of using their lips and tongues correctly. They will choke and gulp with low intake.

I might want so see him on a bottle and see if he has problems gripping his lips or adjusting to the milk flow or dribbles milk out.

Now, I have not seen this baby, it is just that 2 ounces is not as much as I normally see on this problem. But the Breastfeeding Answer Book has information about lowering the milk supply with drugs/herbs.
