<<I'm wondering if tongue-ties can ever fix themselves or if babies just
figure out a way to breastfeed despite the tongue tie>>
I wish I knew for sure.
It does appear that most kids with a more posterior tongue tie are able to
nurse comfortable/effectively eventually. (If the mom can stick it out long
enough) Often seems to be between 6wks and 3 months of age. I assume the
tongue/mouth grow long/large enought to hold onto more breast better...but I
don't really know.
<<The mom finally agreed to take baby to the ENT who took one glance at the
tongue and said no tongue tie. I looked like a complete idiot!>>
Yes---this has happened to me in a case where the frenulum was very thick
and fleshy and the kid could not move his tongue at all and I was not
comfortable clipping it, so sent to ENT. Very frustrating.
