A friend of mine passed on a great tip she heard for moms traveling
with expressed milk - use frozen peas to keep it cold. That way you're
not traveling with anything that becomes liquid as it thaws, but it
does keep milk cool.
I had a chat with our local TSA supervisor who recommended calling the
TSA manager at the airport before traveling to get the most up-to-date
information on their individual screening procedures (rather than
calling the airlines, who tend not to be as informed). He recommended
checking expressed milk from the trip in a cooler with dry ice, then
if pumping is necessary en route, pump after entering security (with
aforementioned frozen peas to keep it cool).
If anyone has more up-to-date information on this, please email me
off-list, as I'm currently updating my website with this information.
