I can answer the first question...

Hale (from Medications and Mother's Milk Online) lists it as a lactation
risk of L3 for normal use and an L4 for chronic use. Here is an excerpt
explaining that a little more:

"Prolonged use (months) could potentially alter GI flora, and induce dental
staining although doxycycline produces the least dental staining. Short term
use (three-four weeks) is not contraindicated. No harmful effects have yet
been reported in breastfeeding infants but prolonged use is not advised. For
prolonged administration such as for exposure to anthrax, check the CDC web
site as they have published specific dosing guidelines."

I have no answer for the second question.

Subject: lymes and Doxycycline

A friend has lymes, and they are telling her she can't nurse while on
Doxycycline, which is the only option, according to the doctor. So, I
have two questions:

1. Can a mom nurse on Doxycycline?
2. Are there other alternative treatments?

Thanks

Joylyn
