I owe everyone an apology as I passed on misinformation when I last wrote
(2/8/07). Under "Old info," I listed the 3 parts of the Breastfeeding Bill
of Rights incorrectly. In actuality, the 3 parts are related to providing
women with accurate BF information, free from commercial interests, and
appropriate BF assistance:
1. prenatally
2. in the hospital
3. in the community
The other topics WERE discussed in Albany on 1/30/07 but are NOT part of
that bill. I am awaiting more information on those two topics:
1. BF in the workplace
2. Peer Counselors in the WIC program
Under "Current info" - what I wrote is correct:
- The Breastfeeding Bill of Rights has two numbers in the NYS legislature:
1. in the Senate it is: S1674
2. in the Assembly: A3782
- The sponsors of the bill, in their respective chambers, are:
1. Senator Liz Krueger
2. Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther
- Several legislators promised their support for the bill after our
visits to their offices on 1/30/07. (Remember the famous quote: Never
doubt that a small group of
thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the
only thing that ever has ~ Margaret Mead)
