In the area of health care (or more accurately in the
US--disease-care), the issue of ethics is a land-mine. From what I am
understanding here, it appears that the American Heart Association
demands that the NRP book with the CD inside be used for the training
being discussed. Consider that the AHA is in no way itself immune to
the the lures of Big Pharma. So, this really is no surprise. I guess I
would like to think that there is a profession somewhere willing to be
the gatekeeper--to refuse to be bought in every way possible.
Considering that breastfeeding is the third step in the prevention of a
lifetime of disease-care, we are in a good position to take that role.
BTW, the first step is preconception and pregnancy health, the second
is normal birth.

Hi, my name is Casey, I'm new to the group and have not posted yet.
I've=
=20
been following the ABM marketing and NRP discussion with great interest.
It is a difficult situation. I checked the website - newborn breath -
h=
owever,=20
to the best of my understanding, ALL NRP certification requires reading
o=
f the=20
NRP book, the same book posted at newborn breath as required reading
for=20=
NRP, which contains the DVD in the back with the logo from Mead Johnson.
So, though that instructor might have a wonderful way of presenting, if
o=
ne=20
purchases the book to have on hand (which I think is a generally good
ide=
a),=20
it will inevitably contain the disc which has been the subject of the
ent=
ire=20
debate.
Just my 2cents,

I hate to burst peoples' bubbles, but the NRP book shown in the link
abov=
e IS=20
the book that all of us RN's use to get our NRP certification.
This, actually, is the only nationally acceptable program. It is the
Amer=

Heart Association standards.
So, is there a Mead Johnson or Ross advertisement in this particular

?=20
This is the book with the CD Rom.=20
