Well I don't think I've seen this except right after delivery. Here in
Mississippi we have lots of bottled "bf" babies and doctors telling mom to
feed for 5-7 min then there's no more and then to give formula and it's ok
to do it. So the frustration level is quite high for moms and LCs who want
babies to bf.
I put babies in and preach STS and KMC, most are with visitors or in crib
when I come back. How long should they be left in place? I'd say hours. Are
they fed if it takes hours until they latch? For example, some colostrum in
a syringe? The prevailing culture is one of feeding them if they don't latch
in xxx hours and giving them a bottle of formula if they have a "low" blood
sugar on admit (what about helping the mother to bf or letting the baby self
attach?). Well I would love to have some success stories to tell. I'm really
starting to believe I'm just not an effective LC. Today was a lousy day.
