I would look at latch on and do the asymetrical latch with this baby. If
mom had sore nipples, it can cause breast pain. The Avent is fairly
narrow in the tunnel part where the nipple go if mom uses the soft
plastic petal piece. Too tight on the nipple can compress it and cause
pain, both nipple and possibly breast pain (guessing). If she is pumping
with too much suction or too long of time, it can hurt. I have worked
with lots of women who say someone (nurse, doctor, hospital LC) looked
at her latch on and said it was fine but when I gave her proper latch,
with the asymetrical or Australian method, then we cure the problem.
Things are usually different with each baby, so reassure her on this
matter.
