Kathy Eng mentioned:
The frothy thing is how colostrum comes out of the valves.
Happens with the Medela and Ameda pumps. Why? Who knows but once the
milk becomes "mature milk" it stops being so frothy or bubbly.
Good to know, Kathy.
And I've only seen it once with a Medela Lactina. (We have about ten pumps;
used to have forty.) What I noticed was this mother had smaller breasts and
the shield did not conform to her breast shape very well. Her breasts were
fine, just slightly than most. The far edges of the shield did not contact
her breast. I think I might have done better to switch her to a larger
tunnel/shield size.
