I have to disagree with this point of view. I don't think that term was coined by others to be condescending. I think it was coined by breastfeeding advocates themselves. In fact, the first person I ever heard use "lactivist" and "lactivism" was J. Rachael Hamlet, creator of The Breastfeeding Advocacy Page (which was later donated in its entirety for use by promom.org). I know for sure Rachael didn't intend to be condescending towards breastfeeding advocates in doing so. I think the term is clever... not cute.

Absolutely! Throughout history the first way to devalue any group of people is to give them a condescending name (ethnic nicknames are a good example). It takes away individuality and allows others to feel superior. Not sure there is much we can do about it, except to object to the term whenever we can, and to continue to let our WORK be the true reflection of who we are.
