A mother of a 21-day-old baby has been treated in hospital for a
breast abscess, and she has been told they found MRSA in the milk.
She has been told to stop breastfeeding on the affected side, to
avoid giving the baby MRSA, but she is now so scared she has stopped
bf completely.
I have looked in the Lactet archives but I can't find what I want -
documentation that shows it is (or isn't) safe to breastfeed on both
(or one) breast.
My gut reaction is of course she should continue to bf, on both
breasts, because she will protect the baby via antibodies in her
milk. But an initial search on PubMed doesn't bring up anything that
really supports this.
