Hey Nikki don't slur the blokes! I know plenty who just love seeing babies
and toddlers about the place.
It's something that I love about lactation related conference is that the
rhetoric is backed up in practice (I wish it was the same with adoption
related stuff...bizarrely things are often exclude any children).

I must say that some people object to the presence of children not because
they are disruptive in any way but because they are there at all. In much
the same way that people object to breastfeeding in public even though they
can't see any breast some people object to children being in places where
they don't think they should be. At a function I attended recently a child
health nurse was heard to complain about the presence of children "because
she works with children every day, she didn't want to see them at
conferences" (!) and I have heard other people complain at conferences
(particularly about those breastfeeding toddlers). I think it is reasonable
for conference organisers to let people know that children will be present,
to expect that mothers will be reasonable about noise levels etc from their
children and for those who know they will be distracted by children to sit
at the front.

I hope that LLL will continue to have their international conference. I
would love, love, love to be able to participate in one one year (puts hand
up as a conference speaker LOL!). Part of the reason why I have wanted to go
is because of the involvement of other members of the family in the
conference which I think is just fabulous! Maybe having it outside of the US
would be a good idea (ILCA in Aust was a big success)... we don't have LLL
in Aust but New Zealand is a nice place to visit!
