Hi All,
Does anyone have, or know of, a nice reader friendly 'handout' for parents
that describes what the act of breastfeeding itself does for the infant (not
just breastmilk)? I would love to find something that describes (in laymans
terms) how the physical act of breastfeeding optimally develops the neural
pathways in the brain. I want a handout like this for ALL moms who have
baby at the breast with or without breastmilk. I am currently working with
3 moms who are suffering from hypoplasia, 2 of who are trying to decide if
it is worth it to feed baby at breast with SNS. I think that this KMC
research shows that it is.but how to explain this in a manner that a sleep
deprived mom (and her supporters) can understand and retain.
Also, would love to have a similar handout on the properties of breastmilk.
After listening to Beuscher, M.D. and his research on the anti-infective
properties of breastmilk (and how some of what is in breastmilk has nothing
to do with nutrition!) I really want something along those lines as well.
I have given my best descriptions to my current clients and they are really
interested in it - but my descriptions don't do the topics justice - at all.
:-)
Thanks for any help on this!
Warmly
Jaye Simpson, IBCLC, CIIM, MOM
