For those who have written either to the list or to me with personal
stories, there are always individual variations. (Breastfeeding is
supposed to help with straighter teeth, too, and two out of three of
my kids need braces. But maybe all three would have if I hadn't
breastfed.) I am trying to find a research article that compares
groups of children to quote to the magazine. Not that the article was
written by anyone professional or necessarily in a scientific way. It
is just that it is an alternative type publication sold in health
food stores and I was surprised to see that breastfeeding was not
mentioned. Here are the things the author lists as what parents can
do to minimize the risk of early puberty or slow its progression once
it starts: avoid all hormone laden food (she does mention keeping soy
to a minimum), buy organic fruits and vegetables, create a green
household, keep the kids lean and active, don't let children chew on
soft plastic toys, drink filtered water, take supplements and eat
foods that detoxify, and be proactive at the first sign of early
puberty by seeing a health care practitioner.
