Discussions of what is the going rate for an LC can't take place on Lactnet,
lest the participants be accused of price fixing. You are all free to carry
on whatever private correspondence you like with whomever you like.
Speaking as a publicly employed person myself now:
In regard to your query, Karyn-Grace, I think there may be other concerns
than what is the going rate. If I have understood you correctly, the job is
at a public or quasipublic agency. It sounds ethically sketchy to be seeing
a mother through a job you are on public salary for, and requiring the
mother to pay you an extra fee privately. I imagine both your employer and
the mothers would have some objections to a set-up like this, and I would
understand them if they did. Things may be different where you work, but
here, at least, it wouldn't fly.
