It is October and Breast Cancer Awareness month here in the US. Everything
is getting the Pink Ribbon treatment.
In the mid 1970s when I started our bra fitting business the ACS said the
breast cancer rate was 1 in 15 women. It is now up to 1 in 6 in some areas
of our country. Some possible reasons:
1. Near cessation of breastfeeding with WWII and thereafter (LLL began in
1956)
2. Introduction of the birth control pill and hormone replacement therapy.
(The Pill came on the market in 1962 and Premarin in 1942. A Manhattan gyn.
Robert Wilson published Feminine Forever in 1966, lauding HRT for
youthfulness.)
3. More and various chemicals ending up in our body fat.
(Israel banned some organochloride pesticides in the 1970's and their
highest breast cancer rates declined.)
4. rBgh hormone now in dairy products and DES residues previously found in
meat before being banned
Here is what Dr. Samuel Epstein MD, author of *Cancer-Gate: How to Win the
Losing Cancer War* 2005 and *Politics of Cancer* 1979 says about it:

Anyone have any more ideas?

Time is now for awareness
10/08/2006
Please take a moment today as we make our way through October and head into
the holiday months to encourage a woman you know to have a breast exam.
One in every eight women will be diagnosed with some form of breast cancer,
and that statistic is up from one in 20 in 1960, according to
breastcancer.org.
How is it that in less than 50 years that number has more than doubled?
.....
Finding a cure for this horrific disease, which, according to the
statistics, is increasing instead of being brought under some type of
control, is a must.
However, we also would like to make a push for research into the cause of
the disease.
A second look at the numbers above and a quick check of when we started
adding fluoride to our water reveals some correlation, at least in terms of
timing.
We are simply re-floating a theory that has been out there for years to
perhaps refocus some attention on the cause of breast cancer.
After all, wouldn't that be the fastest way to finding a cure?
As you're taking a moment to encourage a family member or friend to have
that exam, please take another moment to ask whether a cause has ever been
determined, and why.
