Linda asks about a newborn who succumbed to Herpes. My understanding is
that it can be transmitted in utero on the basis of even just the father's
history. Neither parent has to have an active lesion. If this baby had become
ill prior to birth, it may be that the infection was just too far advanced for
the breastmilk antibodies to impact. Babies have been born with terrible
brain damage due to this virus. Mother had no history and father hadn't had
outbreaks in years. It is a NASTY virus.
Does anybody have more information?
Nancy
