Dear Lactnetters,
I have not spoken to the mother directly. A Public Health Nurse just called me with this & it has me stumped.
Mom just had 7th baby. Breastfed the first 5 just fine.
Baby #6 came along & the only difference mom identified was that she had developed a hernia. Breastfeeding hurt so badly that after 2 weeks, she gave up.
Baby #7 is 2 days old & they were just released from hospital earlier today. Normal referral to public health. Mom states that she "tried" breastfeeding & again, she's in pain. She has already started bottle feeding. From the description of the pain, it sounds like the pain associated with uterine contractions.
My first thought was pain management/ medication but after that, I'm stumped. I'm thinking that time should take care of this, but I just want to make sure that I'm not missing something. (Looked in "Breastfeeding Answer Book" & Lactnet archives & found nothing.)
Thanks for your time.
