I do believe there are times when a shield is most appropriate. I strongly
believe that there should be follow up with a LC. I live in a city where
we have LCs that routinely give nipple shields to patients. (I am not
aware of the actual rate of distribution of these shields). When
discussing this practice with this group, they are comfortable using the
postpartum breastfeeding support group as a follow up instead of 1 to 1
consultations. I on the other hand am a control freak and require not only
a consent for ns, but require 1 to 1 follow up until the shield comes off.
I can't see using a peer/mommy support group for f/u with a nipple shield.
How does everyone feel about the use of peer/mommy support groups for ns
follow up?
