While we often do not know why a mother has difficulties releasing milk, I
have found that it is sometimes helpful for her to obtain a prescription for
oxytocin nasal spray and try that for a couple of days. Sometimes just a few
successful let downs seems to condition things to work better. It helps the
mother relax and realize that her breasts will work. A compounding pharmacy can
fill the prescription, although it may be expensive.
