I personally have no desire to ever consider performing a frenotomy. I am
in total agreement there is a need for them, but I do not want the
responsibility for a surgical procedure-that is why the M.D carries a
different level of malpractice insurance than I need to. I do remember
years ago being told by a speech pathologist that if a baby was NOT
breastfeeding, it was best to wait on clipping, as many will outgrow a
tight frenulum (it will often stretch out over time). When I asked why
wait, I was told they had seen cases where the frenulum had been clipped
too far back and speech problems had occurred later in life.
