I'm glad to hear from other LC's in other states. I typically see 4-5% wt losses in the first 24 hours. I also believe it can be directly attributed to mother-baby separation. EACH time a baby is taken to the nursery, we afford an opportunity to use a pacifier, which stays in the crib. EACH time mom and baby are separated, there is a disconnect, and difficulty getting back to breast.
I'd like to see moms spend twice as much time in skin to skin contact as the time separated from baby.
10% wt losses are common where I work. I do not believe they are "normal".
