Hi, All:  Our NICU clinical specialist forwarded to me a recommendation 
from NANN (National Association of Neonatal Nurses) regarding using 
breastmilk-soaked Q-tip swabs for performing oral care on NICU babies.  Not 
only would these swabs be used for oral care but also for pain relief for 
painful/invasive procedures (BM substituted for the Sweetease currently 
used in hospitals) and for babies who are presently mostly NPO.  I believe 
a hospital in Portland OR is doing this.  Is anyone else using EBM in this 
way in their practice setting?  I certainly don't see any harm to the 
practice.  Our Director of Neonatology was asking my opinion yesterday and 
says he has absolutely no problem with following this procedure.  I told 
him I would see if I could find more information.  Anyone?
