Yes, there are meds for this disorder, which are compatible with
breastfeeding. Even Lithium (not my first choice) is approved by the AAP, *with careful
infant monitoring*. Depakote and others can be used, as well. I would get
her doctor a copy of Hale and/or get the doctor information about Hale's
website.
Not breastfeeding and/or sudden weaning have been implicated with a
worsening of mood problems. Not to mention all the risk incurred by the baby.
