Maryelle, that was beautiful. I believe that it was very astute
of you to point out parental disappointment in not having the
baby they expected/wanted. Thinking back, with several moms, I
can hear that disappointment "between the lines" of complaints
that breastfeeding "isn't working out". They're really saying "my
BABY isn't working out (what I expected) and what in heaven's
name am I going to do? HELLLLLP!"
What really surprised me in Maryelle's posting was a physician
who spoke to patients about her personal experience. My
background is in psychology, and I can hardly imagine any
professional psychologist or psychiatrist opening up to a patient
this way! Truth is, because of my background, I always felt
guilty when I shared MY personal experiences with moms consulting
me and when I put certain things in my manual. It was such a NICE
surprise, Maryelle! I feel like you've given me a present. Well,
you have! Freedom from guilt. Gratefully, Judy Knopf
