Is anyone aware of a study that correlates use of pitocin with increased jaundice. There are a lot of references in articles (one-liners) and even in the package insert of Pitocin, but few refer the information to a study, or give reasons based on that study. Some of the one line explanations have been (1) Bilirubing fighting for the binding sites with Pitocin [Secondary:] (2) Increased blood volume to baby due to stronger contractions (3) more birth trauma and hematomas.
