A mom I am working with, has been plagued by plugged ducts since the
beginning. Baby is now four weeks old and mom has been breastfeeding and
pumping to
keep herself comfortable whenever she feels these hard, plugged ducts.
Baby
has done well weight gain and satisfaction wise. I questioned this mom
about antibiotics, past vaginitis, etc. and she said she had had none and
so,
nothing seemed to point to thrush. I have not seen her for three weeks
assuming
all was well. She called yesterday and said that she had been to doctor
for white patch in baby's mouth and was given Nyastatin rinse. She then
got
Diflucan (in incorrect dosage -- the one for vaginitis) from OB as she was
experiencing severe pain sounding very much like thrush. She later
requested dosage correction. She also began using Grapefruit seed extract on her
and on the baby and was going to get a Rx for APNO as well. Now, she happens
to mention that indeed she was Group B positive and oh yes, she did have
some antibiotics at birth. I see. So, my question to you is this --
could the persistent plugged ducts be from on ongoing case of Thrush, most
likely
ductal and could we then hope that following treatment for thrush, they
will
resolve as well? Thanks, Ann
